onix-base installs system and user configuration helpers. They detect the active desktop and hardware, then apply supported settings or repairs. They do not replace package management; use pacman or opkg for package transactions.
Inspect the detected system
Run diagnostics before changing a setting:
onix-configure --diagnose
onix-configure --show-config
The command can report the detected desktop session, hardware profile and configuration state. Unknown hardware is reported rather than assigned an unverified tuning preset.
Configure a desktop session
The interactive system configuration command is:
sudo onix-configure --configure
User-session setup is run as the logged-in user, without sudo:
onix-configure --user
The helper supports GNOME, KDE Plasma, XFCE, MATE, Cinnamon, LXQt and Budgie when the relevant components are installed. The standard image set currently ships GNOME, KDE, XFCE, Security (XFCE) and Server/Core profiles; helper support for another desktop does not make it a standard image.
Persist a setting
Use --set KEY=VALUE for supported options, and review the active config after a change:
sudo onix-configure --set ONIX_POWER_BACKEND=auto
onix-configure --show-config
Current settings include desktop and form-factor overrides, power backend, conservative memory defaults, fstrim, and whether repair mode may regenerate the initramfs. The package manual lists accepted values; do not copy a setting from another release without checking it against the installed onix-configure(8) manual.
Run repairs
sudo onix-configure --repair
Repair mode is intended for supported configuration fixes. It does not install, remove or upgrade packages. Check the command output and relevant service logs before repeating a repair.
