The installer is selected by the live profile. Package availability alone does not select an installer; the profile’s package list and airootfs/ startup configuration do that.
| Profile | Installer path | Source and notes |
|---|---|---|
| Core | onixos-cli-installer (onixos-installer) |
Package is in the Core list. Its current installer workflow requires a UEFI/GPT target and uses systemd-boot. |
| KDE, GNOME, XFCE, Security | calamares-onix |
The package provides Calamares with Onix configuration/branding. It is listed in those profile package manifests. |
| Server | onix-server-installer |
This curses interface and backend are included in the Server profile’s airootfs/; it is not the generic CLI installer package. It starts on tty1. |
| All six standard profiles | archinstall fallback |
Included as a separate guided installation option. |
Core CLI installer
The onixos-cli-installer recipe declares architecture any and installs the onixos-installer command. The upstream package README describes UEFI boot and GPT/EFI partitioning for this installer. The Core image itself includes BIOS and UEFI live boot entries; do not confuse live-image boot support with the CLI installer’s target-disk support.
Calamares
calamares-onix packages the Calamares installer and Onix branding/configuration files. Its current local recipe declares x86_64 and brings Qt 6/KF 6 and installer dependencies. The desktop and Security profiles start the graphical installer from their live environment. Use the relevant profile page for desktop-specific package selections.
Server installer
The Server project vendors its installer under airootfs/usr/share/onixos-server/installer and installs its entry points into the live image. The wizard asks for the disk, host identity, first user and optional roles, then requires final confirmation before erasing the target. It supports BIOS and UEFI and includes service-role conflict checks. See Server profile details.
Fallback
Each standard profile includes archinstall. Start it from a live terminal when the profile’s primary installer is unavailable or when using the Arch guided flow:
archinstall
The installation guide covers the user path and disk-safety checks. Installer package versions and source links are in the package inventory.
