Standard image set
The build system currently selects six standard profiles. Their checked-in package lists and profile definitions target x86_64, with BIOS Syslinux and UEFI systemd-boot live boot entries. The counts below are non-comment entries in each packages.x86_64 file; they are not installed dependency totals.
| Profile | Image role | Package entries | Installer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | Minimal command-line system | 53 | Onix CLI installer |
| KDE | KDE Plasma desktop | 59 | Calamares |
| GNOME | GNOME desktop | 91 | Calamares |
| XFCE | XFCE desktop | 94 | Calamares |
| Security | XFCE live desktop with security tools | 133 | Calamares |
| Server | Server image with service-role installer | 51 | Server-specific installer |
All six include archinstall as a fallback. The installation guide explains the installer paths. See the package/profile map for shared and profile-specific selections.
Additional projects
These profile-group projects are separate from the six standard images. Check the project’s source and releases for current artifacts and support details.
| Project | Verified source notes |
|---|---|
| Mobile Edition | Plasma Mobile image and root filesystem archive. The source lists x86_64, aarch64 and armv7h targets; device support still depends on kernel, device tree, firmware and boot configuration. |
| TV Edition | Plasma Bigscreen project with raw disk images for x86_64 and aarch64 Raspberry Pi systems, rather than a standard installer ISO. |
| Kubernetes project | Separate image project, outside the six active standard profiles. Check its README and releases for current implementation status. |
| Retro Edition | XFCE retro-gaming project. GitLab marks the project archived. |
| Floppy project | Small BusyBox and Olang Mini boot image for i386 and x86_64; it is not a desktop or installation image. Check the repository for current release and maintenance details. |
The group also has Docker and Vagrant delivery projects. They are not install profiles; links are collected on the Download page.
Files in a standard profile
| File or directory | Responsibility |
|---|---|
profiledef.sh |
Image name, label, boot modes and architecture |
packages.<arch> |
Packages requested for the live image |
pacman.conf |
Repositories available during image assembly |
airootfs/ |
Files copied into the live root, including service and desktop setup |
syslinux/, efiboot/ |
Boot configuration for declared modes |
Makefile |
Profile-local targets; project-specific, not a universal interface |
Package source lists select projects to build for a repository. A profile package list selects packages to install in an image. The lists are connected through repository package names, but neither one automatically extends the other.
Customization and architecture
To customize a profile, work in the relevant profile source and review profiledef.sh, packages.<arch>, pacman.conf, the airootfs/ overlay and boot files together. The build system has image targets for x86_64, aarch64 and armv7h, but an image target requires a compatible profile definition, package set and boot files. The profile development guide walks through those files and their build-system relationship. See System architecture and Building OnixOS.
For Archiso behavior, see the ArchWiki Archiso guide. The active profile list is maintained with the build-system source configuration; this guide does not modify it.
