Choose a stable or Development profile image from the Download page. It identifies the correct host for each release type. Check the profile and architecture in the filename before writing an image.
Installing can repartition or format the selected disk. Back up needed files and verify the target device before confirming any erase operation.
Core
Core uses onixos-cli-installer, a terminal-based installer. It installs the base system from the Core live environment. The package project provides the onixos-installer command.
Desktop profiles
KDE, GNOME, XFCE, Security and other desktop profiles use the OnixOS Calamares installer. Boot the desktop image and choose Install OnixOS. Review the selected disk, locale, user and desktop options before applying changes.
Server
The Server profile includes its own automated installer. Choose a target disk and the server roles to install, then review the final disk-change confirmation. The installer configures the selected services as part of its flow.
Fallback: archinstall
The standard profiles include archinstall as a fallback guided installer. Start it from a live terminal with:
archinstall
Use this when the profile’s primary installer is unavailable or when you specifically need the Arch guided installation flow. The Arch Linux Installation Guide covers its options and the manual base-installation path.
Manual installation
Manual installation is for users who want to assemble and configure the system themselves. Follow the Arch Linux guide, then add the appropriate OnixOS repositories using the current mirror instructions. The profile’s package selection and configuration remain the reference for the corresponding OnixOS image.
After installation, continue with package management and a full system update. For the purpose of each profile, see Getting started.
