A distribution with its own source tree

OnixOS uses pacman for package transactions. The project maintains its package sources, install profiles, repository configuration and the build system that assembles its images. The O Language runtime is also packaged for OnixOS.

The package build configuration enables repository targets for x86_64, aarch64 and armv7h. The six standard install profiles currently declare x86_64 image targets. Repository build support and profile image support are separate; an enabled package architecture does not mean an ISO is available for it.

The repository contains Onix Zen, RT and Generic kernel packages. The current standard profile manifests select Arch’s linux package; the Onix kernel variants are separate repository offerings.

Install profiles

The standard image set is Core, KDE, GNOME, XFCE, Security and Server. Core uses the Onix CLI installer. KDE, GNOME, XFCE and Security use Calamares. Server starts its profile-specific automated installer. archinstall is included as a fallback in the standard profiles.
